Advanced Sailing Adventure Program

 

Sailboat racingThis program is for you if you have sailed with us before or have good previous sailing experience. This program will build on basic sailing skills such as points of sail, sail setting and trimming. You will experience a night sail and an ocean sail, weather permitting. You will also learn advanced sailing maneuvers such as Man Overboard under sail, Anchoring and picking up a mooring buoy under sail, crew management, preparation for sea, passage planning and 'compass oriented' chartwork and navigation.

 

Trip Timing and Duration

 

Your trip will last 6 days and will either start on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday, returning to dock as late as is practical on the day prior to your scheduled flight home. You will spend your last night onboard at the dock. So, if your trip commences at 10:00hrs on a Sunday, you will return to dock on the following Friday and your trip will end the next day, Saturday at 10:00hrs.

 

What you learn


If you take part in our Advanced Sailing Adventure Program you will be provided with informal, in-depth instruction and guidance in a wide range of sailing areas, including but not limited to the following:

  • Preparation for sea, engine checks, stowage, safety equipment, weather forecasts
  • Pilotage (considerations of tidal current, depth, timings, basic bouyage/lightage)
  • Passage planning
  • Navigation using GPS and compass, chartwork including clearing bearings, triangulation
  • Putting in and shaking out reefs – while under way
  • Collision Avoidance regulations
  • Responsibility for crew & delegation of crew
  • Handling the boat under power
  • Handling the boat under sail
  • Emergency situations and what to do, e.g. Mayday, Man Over Board (MOB)
  • Advanced sailing maneuvers under sail such as MOB, anchoring, picking up a mooring ball
  • Knowledge of what to do in adverse weather conditions

 

Cost: $600 per person; this includes all meals onboard. Please Note: our prices will increase to $675 on Oct 1st 2010
