Leaders' Information

Welcome to the Leaders’ Info section!

Leaders on deck

Sailing is becoming ever more popular and every year the demand for aquatic High Adventure places always exceeds availability. With several years of sailing experience in a BSA High Adventure program, we formed Sail School Bahamas in 2005. Our focus is on SAILING - we don’t just ‘take our crews out sailing’, ‘we teach our crews how to sail’ and we make it a fun learning experience!

In this section of our site you will see that, like most 'High Adventure' facilities, we insist on high standards in terms of leadership criteria and trip requirements. To maintain our reputation for delivering top quality sailing adventure programs we ensure that our Captains and staff consistently deliver a high standard of service to the youth and leaders who sail with us. When we analyze evaluation forms completed by the Adult Leaders and Scouts who sail with us, along with the notes we take during our trip debrief sessions, they show our programs regularly exceed expectations! If you wish to speak with Adult Leaders who have sailed with us, send us an email and we’ll arrange it.

To ensure your comfort and safety, we insist on fewer crewmembers per sailboat than other aquatic High Adventure programs. Our Captains all work to the same sail training syllabus to ensure every crew achieves a similar level of sailing ability. All our Captains are familiar with the unique features of High Adventure programs and they have considerable local knowledge of the sailing area, snorkeling locations and the surrounding islands and settlements. Our sailboats are in great condition and are all fully licensed and fully equipped. We go to great lengths to make certain everyone who attends a Sail School Bahamas sailing adventure has a superb time and leaves the Bahamas with memories to last a lifetime.

In order to get the most out of your sailing adventure program you should study all this information carefully and print it off. It is comprehensive and has been compiled through our first-hand experience of working with Scouts and their Adult Leaders to ensure every trip is a success.

In the essence of being prepared, this information should help you to plan efficiently and effectively and there is a handy checklist to ensure you have done everything necessary to prepare for your trip. However, if you have any questions, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to help.

Yours in Scouting,
Sail School Bahamas staff.
